Machine composed electronic music - or experimental generative atonal electronic music made with an analog modular synth. I give my synth the prerequisites to create music - and it does - endlessly. I record and pick out some created songs.

I have started to read a certain book written by allen strange, "electronic music: systems, techniques, and controls". It's about time i dig into it. Probably it will result in some sounds. . .

Just some experimenting around with my modular. . . . . I take a signal from an lfo and split. I invert one of the signals and mix them.

I'll tell you when the patch is okay.

5 quantussy cells made with cycling ads. One function and intellijel quadra + expander. That's 5. Applied some limiter. The dynamics was extreme.

Another one with 1 looping envelope and 2 vclfos in a dance. I start the recording with the looping envelope in non looping mode. After about 33 sec i switch to looping-mode. Records and hope that a pattern should emerge. So, what do you think? one more time i switch looping mode off and then on. Cool technique.

Patch consiting of- jupiter storm- jerkoff- filter- 2 x lfo- mixer- (spring reverb). Jupiter storm and jerkoff is in a "weak feedback loop". . . Purpose with patch is to evaluate the quality of the generative sounds/musicit will never repeat it self but there is some cyclic repetitionone cycle is about 50 sec - goodonly short sounds - badamplitude variation - badpitch variation - goodtimbre variation - okaymusical value - low to mediumentertaining - medium.

Vcv-rack patch5 vclfos in a ring gives you a lot of interrelated cv. Classic. Instead of vclfos you can use looping envelopes.

I forgot i was recording! in one and a half hour. . . This is from that recording. It's an vcv-rack patch generating suspense music or call it anticipation music. Is there a good word for it. Maybe you interpret the sound in a different way? some sort of back ground noise anyway. . . ?the sound is time stretched, eqed, compressed and i added a little reverb.

The result of trying to disturb a sequence. I'm playing with a double vc switch. Whats wrong is right in the modular synth world. Good for me. And it's a loop!.

The three parts are following the sam chaotic lfo.

Simple patch. Two oscillators, ring modulation, lfos, vcas and digital effects. No spring reverb this time. Important module is the clock divider. The oscillators where tuned to the same tone one octave apart. Well. . . Not exactly. After having recorded i measured the frequencies 228,8 hz and 117,7 hz. . . But that made the output from the ring modulator interesting. What is generative with this? i modulate amplitude of the sounds and the decay for all thee sounds. This also affects the rhythm sound.

No it didn't. Well cool patch anyway? it's what i like. Small variations on a simple theme. Sloth lfos and a jerk off (both from nlc) are the engine. Yes and a comparator. Using an or/gate-combiner to create a trigger-ish for quadra to react on. Analog delay and spring reverb. Why did i do this patch from the very beginning? when the voltage on x from sloth reaches a specific value a trigger is generated and i sample the value on y and uses to select pitch on an oscillator. The one playing the long tones. Chaos creates my variations. Sh1t, now when i've stopped recording cool thing are happening. Promise. . .

I used make noise function, doepfer a-147-2 cvlfo, doepfer a-148 sample and hold, doepfer a-110 vco, doepfer a-124 filter, alm tangle quartet vca and mixer, doepfer a-199 spring reverb, pittsburgh modular outs (mk. Ii) outmodule.

Electric and noisy sound that evokes bad radio transmission or hard drive problem. It was created by the pressure of a iced tea bottle, which let a small air stream escape through the neck. (lot of noise cause the sound was really low). Zoom h5n + sgh6 mic.
